A big change with the newspaper
Hi everyone. First off, sorry about the lack of communication and the lack of newspapers. I should have let people know that there would be a delay in having newspapers on their doorstep. The reason, I guess, is a sad one for me.
I'm afraid that the current way I'm doing the newspaper is just not feasible for me. The cost of printing it as a newspaper and the fact I have to get 500 copies, minimum, has just put me in a significant hole to make me decide something has to change.
So, I don't know if I'm describing the end of Small Town Square or if it's just on ice for a bit. I am looking at options on printing something that I can do (switching to a magazine style or something else a purchasable printer can do). If I can't find that, then it might be the end of this. The most important thing was that it was a physical object, that it was something people could read holding it in their hands.
I will produce one more edition of the paper, and I would like to have it to you all on the 8th of August. It will be saying goodbye in a way. It also will describe how everyone can get reimbursed for the issues they paid for but didn't get. I want to make sure everyone knows that I didn't deliver on your subscriptions. I am sorry about that and I want to make it right.
If the paper can be produced in-house (and I really hope it can) I'll let everyone know about it.
You all took a chance on me and subscribed based on either our personal connections or wanting to see a full-sized paper back in town. I really don't enjoy the letting down of people who put their faith in me. Your support is what makes me want to try and revive it through some other printing means, however. I wish the financial considerations of the newspaper didn't make it so the only way for it to be viable was to be an immediate success where I had hundreds of subscribers right away. I think I could have got to that point eventually, but the debt was mounting and sometimes you have to pragmatically let go of a dream.
Thanks again everyone. Please get in touch at mike@smalltownsquare.com if you want to talk about reimbursement right away. But I will get you your last issue and I hope that I can do that on August 8th.
Mike
